ISSCP DATA STORAGE
There are additional services offered to those that use ISSCP as
there outside security professionals. What do you do with your data once security
has created the DRP (Disaster Recovery Plan).
An effective Disaster Recovery Plans calls for your data to be accessible before, during and
after an disaster, regardless of the size, type and duration.
One of the biggest security risks a business experience is not properly ensuring that their data
once backed up from the server/computer is properly stored and secure. If you look at the
DataLoss checklist, you will see that many times the reason the Data was lost, was "lost or stolen
data tape/backup".
A form of security we often see employed is a trusted individual does the backup and takes
it home with them at the end of the day. Great that it is off-site, but if the employee/indivdual
is in a car accident or stops by the store to shop, your data is at risk of being damaged, lost,
stolen or destroyed. Now what! Ask yourself, if you lost you backup tape and the computer crashed,
could you still recover, and if so, how long will it take?
Unforetunately many times there is no recovery plan at all or a very weak backup plan at least.
A backup plan is NOT a disaster recovery plan and sadly many times they are combined or ignored altogether.
BUSINESS CASE (Do not let this be YOU)
One of the worst cases we have encountered was: a business upgraded their business process to a
computerized system. They were sold an very good system and it really started to make improvements
in business operations. Their processes were more streamlined and effective. However, the
computer's hard drive crashed and there was NO backup. They were not informed about recovery
or backup plans. It took them 3 months to recover the system and bring it back to when the
crash occured and another 2 months to catch up the backlog it caused. Just a simple backup
plan would have made a world of difference. Good things come out of bad situations however,
they know now and see how important a backup is.
Business Need
Due to the business need for data backup from a security point alone, ISSCP offers two
data storage programs: Collection and Remote.
Collection: (Depending on your location as this is not offered to all). ISSCP
will send an employee to pick up the backup media at your location, and drive the media back
to an ISSCP secured location for storage, according to your backup plan. Media will be signed
for and collected. In the event of a recovery, a simple phone call and your media will be
returned within the agreed timeframe.
Remote: Simply stated, you will be given a secure access to a temporary
remote disk drive controlled by ISSCP. You will dump or file transfer your files to this
remote drive . This will be secured to only allow access by you, using your ID and security
codes. In the event of a recovery, a simple phone call and your backup will be made available
through the same mechanism within the agreed to timeframe.
If unsure of which solution is best for you ask our representatives to explain it to you
further. We give you peace of mind that your data will be kept secure, safe and readily
available at your request(s).
DON'T RISK YOUR BUSINESS ON A
POOR BACKUP PLAN
In today's digital age most, if not all, business processes
are impacted, performed or they heavily rely on IT (Information Technology).
Don't let your business fail or suffer due to a poor backup plan.
In Florida, we all know about hurricane season and the often last minute hurricane
insurance. Think of your DRP (Disaster Recovery Plan) as your Disaster Insurance.
Backup Policies are a small part of DRP, but a very critical part, as many times the
disaster can be small and requires immediate resolution. When the Hard Drive crashes
you want to simply swap it out and continue functioning with the minimal amount of
delay. Backup policies and plans go along way to ensure that happens
Once the backup is complete take it off-site away from the computer as soon as
possible. If you computer burned down and the tape was inside or on top it would be
useless. Remove the media and store it safely or allow ISSCP to store it for you. Make sure
that it is kept safe from the instant it is complete until you request it back again. ASK
